Handing Notes:
We sell all 78 Series closers as handed, but all versions we stock are reversible in the field.
Several versions (that are non-stock for us) are truly handed.
When mounting the closer Regular Arm style, the arm can be mounted Left or Right Hand.
When mounting the closer Parallel Arm style, handing rules sometimes apply.
A standard non-hold open arm can be reversed in the field (stock item). But a Hold Open arm is handed and cannot be reversed (non-stock item).
Also, the Delayed Action version of the closer is handed, but we do not stock this option.
Review: Delayed Action closers and those mounted Parallel Arm with Hold open are truley handed.
All other versions can be reversed in the field.
Specialty Brackets:
The 78 Series offers a number of specialty mounting brackets not available with standard closer models.

4 Models of corner brackets are available (see catalog). Each model offeres a different alignment to the door frame,
allowing you to suit most any application.
These specialty brackets are trickey to order, so pay close attention to the dimensions provided in the catalog.

Arched and curved frame headers can be accomodated with specialty brackets.
Two versions of the arch bracket are offered, one for mounting Push Side and the other for Pull Side.
To determine the proper bracket, stand on the side of the door you wish to mount the closer.
Then look at the door. If you need to push it open, you have a Push Side Mount.
Curved frames can have almost any degree of radius. These brackets are designed to mount to arched frames of almost any dimension.

Spring Size:
The term ''Spring Size'' is confusing for many people, but it's actually pretty straigtforward.
Spring Size relates to Door Size. The larger the door, the larger the spring required to close it.
Small doors take small springs. If you tried putting a large spring on a small door you would have a door that would not operate well at all.
Some series of closers require you specify an exact spring size, but many series have adjustable springs these days.
In the case of the 78 Series closer, the spring is adjustable to span several sizes.
One version (BD) has a spring that can be adjusted from sizes 2 through 4. This suits most interior doors very well.
Another version (EF) has a larger spring designed for larger doors. Overside doors (36-48'') that are interior would use this version.
Also, exterior doors subject to wind conditions would use this version.
Look at 3 standard doors (36''), in 3 different conditions:
- Interior: Order size BD.
- Exterior - Little Wind: Order size BD.
- Exterior - Strong Wind: Order size EF.
The BD size spring can handle most normal situations and is by far the most popular version sold.
The EF version should only be ordered for heavy doors, or exterior doors in windy conditions.
If your appliation is very windy none of the versions will work very well.
In fact, no commercial closer produced will work very well. You will be required to purchase an automatic door operator,
and even at that it cannot be expected to last to it's full life expectancy.
