Overhead Stops and Holders |
It can be difficult to know the difference between one series and another. Here's a few tips to point you in the right direction.
The series can be broken into two groups:
- Surface Mount
- Concealed Mount
Our listing of the Series at the top of the page shows the category of each series.
The next point to understand is that each Holder and Stop is Sized. That is,you must know the size of door on which
the unit will be installed. The Data Sheets each contain a chart listing the product size vs. door size.
Note that the listing changes depending upon the type of hinge or pivot being used.
Using the charts is the key to ordering the correct model.

Model Numbers |
The model numbers can be a little confusing unless you break them down to their component parts.
Example: 903F-US32D
90 = Series
3 = Size
F = Function
US32D = Finish

Function |
Holder function is the most difficult aspect of the products, but the manufacture's catalog does a good job explaining each function.
Begin by reading the PDF File titled Overview of Overhead Holders and Stops. This is the best place to start.
S = Stop Only (no hold open feature)
H = Stop + H style Hold Open
F = Stop + F style Hold Open
To really understand the difference between the H and F style Hold Open functions you need to view the installation instructions and data sheet.
The general explanation is as follows: ''H'' is considered the standard type of Hold Open, but ''F'' style is more popular.
The reason is the ''F'' type of Hold Open is much easier to install. ''H'' style requires a special frame prep that is best done at the factory.
It is very difficult to prep for ''H'' style in the field.
